Many dog parents have shared their lives with one breed - their favorite. I've been privileged to share mine with a variety of breeds. When Arwen joined my family, I wasn't familiar with Yorkshire Terriers. A variety of Sporting dogs, hounds, a mixed breed, and each had personalities unique to them. Along came Arwen (a teacup Yorkie). This was a breed that was new to me. Situations like these happen more than you think. Unexpected changes in family dynamics happen. Dogs find themselves in shelters for all sorts of reasons. (unfortunately). The words 'difficult to place' are labels and no dog deserves to be labeled. Shelters aren't the place to make assessments of any dog. There's the right home for every dog. There are those going into shelters, working with dogs like these, and getting them out before it's too late. Thank goodness for everything they do. It takes a village with each of us doing what we do best for the welfare of all dogs. When a responsible and reputable rescue group indicates a particular dog needs to be the only dog in a family, there's a good reason for this. They've had time to observe the dogs in their care, outside of a shelter. They want the best outcome for everyone. Responsible rescues don't cut corners. To put it another way - you and your home situation need to pass their approval too. Difficult to hear? Well, here it is. Here's a story for those who may not know that I also have a backstory. In 2018, I was looking for employment. I wasn't familiar with LinkedIn, but began to post content (mine). I also observed the number of consultants. "Why can't I be a consultant?" was the question I posed. I didn't find a job. I founded my company. For those who didn't know, now you do. ⬇️ In July 2020, I founded Lesley Osborn Canine Consulting to provide education and guidance on fostering, adopting, and caring for adult, senior, and special needs dogs. My company’s preeminent goal is to empower people to provide loving forever homes to rescue and shelter dogs. The focus will always be the “QUALITY OF THEIR LIVES.” I have shared my life (and it’s a long one) caring for rescued adult, senior, and special needs dogs by providing them a forever home in my home—a safe, secure place I call GREYSETT. Holding them accountable to any timetable is setting them up for failure when there's a good chance that their new home is the right home for them. Give them time. Give them space. Your home is new to them. Don't forget that this is a two-way street. You may need to do some adjusting too.
